The House of Atreus
The ins and outs of the murderous House of Atreus. To see the whole sordid tale, begin with Tantalus, and work downward.
All of the persons listed in the menu are blood relatives of Tantalus, except for Clytemnestra who married in. However, she seems to me to have fit in well with her in-laws, and I have included her as an honorary member of the family.
The myths about the House of Atreus differ somewhat; for instance, it is unclear how willing Agamemnon was to sacrifice Iphigenia, and in one version of the myth he did in fact kill her. I have chosen my favorite versions of the myths instead of doing a treatise on comparative textual analysis.
I glossed over the whole Trojan war since it did not involve any of the behavior typical of the House of Atreus.
Creating this site was educational. It was not until I did the research for it that I realized that Niobe had any connection with the House of Atreus.
